Why having CCTV is important

Having a working CCTV system allows you to view live and recorded video in and around your premises. It also deters criminals as they will be caught in the act of committing an offence.

How the system is installed and where the cameras are mounted is key to the system as a whole. Outdoor cameras tend to get dirt over the lenses and image quality will suffer if they are not cleaned occasionally. Having some form of backup power like an UPS or inverter is highly recommended, this will keep the system operational when there is no electricity.

Different types of CCTV systems

There are 3 main types of CCTV systems all with their respective pros and cons.

Analog Turbo HD CCTV System

When people think of analog they think of low resolution pixelated images like we had on the old tube television sets back in the day. This is not the case anymore with Turbo HD. Turbo HD CCTV systems still use coaxial RG59 cable but can produce 720P and even full HD 1080P image quality. For anything with a higher resolution a digital system should be installed.

Digital NVR CCTV System

A digital (IP) CCTV system uses network cabling like CAT5e or CAT6 and a NVR recorder. The image quality is exceptional as this system can handle 4K resolution which is 4 times the image quality of full HD 1080P. A digital CCTV system is more costly and for recording more storage space is required. This is the top of the range when it comes to closed circuit television systems.

Wireless CCTV System

Wireless CCTV systems might have a cheaper initial cost but then there are batteries that need to be replaced every couple of months which is a drawback to the reliability of the system. Installation is quicker and cheaper because there are no cables but the wireless signal can get interference causing bad image quality or a complete loss of image.

Using a reputable brand for your CCTV system is strongly recommended! These manufacturers provide a warranty on new systems, carry spare parts, and can provide support if needed.
